Spanning drawing, photography, ceramics, digital media, and sculptural installation, the selected works in this year’s juried exhibition reflect a wide range of approaches while circling shared concerns with the body, material transformation, and spatial perception. Seen together, the works feel less unified by a single theme than by a set of overlapping questions. Some engage the body directly, treating it as both subject and material, and exploring vulnerability and transformation. Others linger on structure and surface, foregrounding process and the tensions that emerge through sustained material experimentation. Throughout the selection process, I kept noticing how art history appears here less as a fixed lineage and more as a form of media history that students navigate fluently, shaped by circulation, remixing, and image saturation. Rather than asserting a singular or proprietary mark, many of the students use style pragmatically and reflectively, adopting and reworking visual languages as tools for thinking. Drawing from histories of art and media that remain very much present, the works appear to approach history not as something to resolve or move beyond, but as material to work through. What emerges is a sense of experimentation that is open- ended and attentive, shaped as much by looking and testing as by the ongoing task of making meaning in an image-saturated world.
